chills—this is fantastic.
when we read this speech in sharon crowley’s rhetorics of american feminisms seminar, she mentioned that there’s some evidence that sojourner truth did not deliver her words in colloquial dialect, but in an articulated standard english. inkarlyn kohrs campbell’s man cannot speak for her, the speech is published with the description of truth written by the speech’s recorder, frances gage, a white woman.
